Replacing older manufacturing methods with new, more efficient techniques
After more than 50 years of supplying high-quality film laminated metals to the marine industry, Metalcolour is now applying its expertise to the train sector. Our DOBEL® Film Laminated Aluminium product is proving to be a strong fit for the evolving demands of train interior design and production. Marcin Parczewski, Sales Manager at Metalcolour with a focus on train interior applications, explains:
“DOBEL Film Laminated Aluminium is EN45545 HL3 tested and approved, which is essential for modern rolling stock. Beyond meeting safety standards, the material allows for streamlined manufacturing compared to conventional methods and materials.”
Ongoing train seat projects
At the moment we have exciting ongoing projects and some time ago, we started a collaboration with the Czech train seat manufacturer Borcad. They’ve recently developed a new train seat that uses DOBEL Film Laminated Aluminium on the back of the backrest and the outer side of the armrest.
„This is a great example of how innovative thinking can support a simpler manufacturing process, cost efficiency, strength, and design,“ says Marcin Parczewski, Sales Manager at Metalcolour.
The seat isn’t in serial production yet, but it will be showcased at upcoming trade fairs.
Designed and Manufactured in Scandinavia
DOBEL products are manufactured in Sweden, adhering to some of the most rigorous quality and environmental standards globally. Metalcolour currently uses aluminium with an average recycled content of 40% – a figure expected to rise as the company continues its efforts to reduce global warming potential (GWP).
Durability and freedom in design
Design flexibility is another key strength. The surface film is available in more than 400 stocked colours, textures, and patterns – with over 1,000 additional options on request.
“We see wide potential across walls, ceilings, seats, tables, acoustic panels, doors and more,” says Marcin.
“DOBEL products are highly durable, with an extra protective layer that resists scratching and cleaning agents. This helps interiors maintain their appearance over time.”
„Shapeability“
One of the material’s defining features is what Metalcolour calls “Shapeability” – its ability to be shaped without distorting the printed design, colour, or pattern. It can be rolled, pressed, profiled, or formed, making it easier for designers to solve complex geometrical challenges that traditional hard laminates often pose.
“It can be used as a standalone surface or as the top layer in honeycomb structures,” adds Marcin. “It offers designers creative freedom while supporting more efficient and sustainable production.”
Upcoming shows
This autumn, we will be exhibiting at both Trako in Gdansk and Rail Interiors in Prague – make sure to visit us if you’re attending.
