Preparing production for Royal Caribbean’s next Icon Class cruise ship
Early this summer we received great news – it got confirmed that we will deliver approximately 350.000 square meters of DOBEL® Film Laminated Steel for the construction of Royal Caribbean International’s next Icon Class cruise ship. The ship will be built at Meyer Turku in Finland and will, just as its sister ship Icon of the Seas, have a tonnage of 250,800 GT and enough room for 7,600 passengers at maximum capacity. Metalcolour will deliver the first batches this autumn. In the very beginning of 2022 we started delivering DOBEL® material to first Icon Class ship, Icon of the Seas. Icon of the Seas has 20 decks with seven swimming pools and six water slides and is scheduled to enter service in the beginning of 2024. Royal Caribbean International claims the ship has the tallest waterfall, the tallest water slide, the largest waterpark and the first suspended infinity pool of any cruise ship so far. All in all, Metalcolour delivered 350,000 square meters of DOBEL® Material used for wall panels, ceilings, doors and wet units. 50 years of innovative coil coating With a wide range of coated metal products for both decorative and technical purposes there are many opportunities to find new areas of use. Adding 50 years of experience, they have accumulated loads of valuable knowledge about potential uses for their products. – Finding new applications with high demands of our key values will be the way forward for both technical and decorative coating. We will continue to do all we can to keep both existing and new customers happy with their cooperation with Metalcolour. The 50-year long journey will continue, says Ingemar. Film laminated metal is an extremely versatile product DOBEL® Film Laminated steel and aluminium are extraordinary suitable for many types of interior applications. They are very flexible materials that can be shaped in almost any way. In the manufacturing process, using prelaminated steel or aluminium often results in fewer production steps and lower energy consumption. Film Laminated metal is also a good alternative from a recycling perspective because used material can be melted down and reused. Metalcolour has for some years now also increased their focus on the construction and train industry to broaden their market. – We are getting a good response and have been supplying materials for some time now that have been used for security doors, interior fittings in elevators and in railway cars. The type of design that is requested varies over time and this is one of Metalcolour’s biggest challenges. – Keeping our range of designs up to date and filling the need for real product samples among our customers improves collaboration and are good for us, our partners and the end result. Our customers’ success is also our success Ingemar emphasizes that Metalcolour’s main focus is delivering high-quality products. Being a flexible business partner and assisting with innovative solutions that increase value for the customer, is also a key to success. With the products in the DOBEL® series comes a quality and service guarantee that Metalcolour is alone to offer in the market. – Our DOBEL® products are well known in the targeted industries for high quality and we are often praised for our flexibility as a supplier.
